I found your article informative. I am looking for an inexpensive backup for my small business network. I dont understand a lot of the tech stuff but it appears you like it and it will do the job for me. I got it for $209 at staples.

Maybe medialink [ http://www.nullriver.com/products/medialink ] can get your PS3 to communicate with your rather "excessive" network storage server.

Sorry, I had to throw that in.

    I know, I know.

Haha, fair enough. Well, I finally gave up on using the media service on the NAS. Instead, I run PS3 Media Server on my Windows machine and grab media off the NAS over the network. It works pretty well, since I have a gigabit switch.

Your article is very informative. I own a Central Axis and agree with many of your points. I am looking for a full backup software solution. I have the NAS on my wireless router and want to perform full backups of my laptop and connected desktop pcs. I'd like to find software that will create a full diskimage, but I'm having problems finding something that will work with a NAS, allow multiple configurations, and is ideally freeware - although free is not a requirement.

Could you please recommend a good NAS, multiple computer, full backup solution - that would work with the Central Axis NAS?

    Thanks

Here are my suggestions for backup on various OSes:

    - Windows: SelfImage - http://www.excelcia.org/modules.php?name=Conten...
    - Mac OSX: Carbon Copy Cloner - http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html
    - Linux: Bacula - http://www.bacula.org/en/

I've had experience personally with SelfImage and CCC, but I've only heard from friends about Bacula. They say they've had good success with it. I tend to use tar for Linux backups, then I mount a share on the NAS and copy to tarballs over.
